Foods that can improve mental health
Taking care of mental health is very important. This is the best way to enjoy happy and healthy life. In case, you have been experiencing feelings such as excessive fatigue, sleepiness during daytime, crankiness, depression or bad mood in general, it is important to do things that can lift your mood.
Mental health experts recommend healthy eating to maintain healthy mind.
Here are some foods that can help towards improving mental health:
Raw foods
Including raw foods in your diet is very important. This means that you should focus on including a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet on a daily basis. Have salads and fruits to enhance your mental health.
Iron
Iron is important for the development of brain. It also keeps the mind healthy and in happy state always.
Hence it would be wise to include iron rich foods in your diet such as spinach, fortified cereals, lean red meats, beans, kidney beans, pasta, bread, rice, broccoli, collards, turnips, asparagus and a lot more.
Small meals at regular intervals

Sugary treats may elevate your mood temporarily. However, these are harmful carbohydrates that will end up in excessive cravings for wrong type of foods.
This will increase storage of fat in your body. Hence, it would be wise to limit candy, soda, packaged fruit juice, syrups, and jam etc to keep your mind healthy.
Avoid starchy foods
These are often referred to as refined carbohydrates. These include food item such as refined flour, rice, crackers, bagels etc.
White starchy foods are not good for your mind and body because these tend to metabolize into sugar at a fast rate. This is not good for health.
Carbohydrates
Focus on eating high quality carbohydrates. These are also referred to as health and mind friendly carbohydrates. These include fresh fruits, vegetables, brown rice, legumes, oatmeal etc.
Fiber-rich foods
It is important to consume soluble fiber rich foods. This helps in reducing the rate of sugar absorption in your blood stream. These foods include strawberries, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, legumes, and a lot more.
High protein foods
Make sure you incorporate protein in your diet. You need to make it an integral part of your daily diet.
Omega-3 fats
These are known to be healthy fats and extremely essential for healthy mind. These are also referred to as mood elevators.
