SMART TVS ARE VULNERABLE TO ATTACKS

We were all amazed by the apparition of smart TVs and we still are.

They are surprisingly innovative and they gathered in the same device the HD view with the flexibility of internet.

But nothing is perfect and smart TVs make no exception.

Unfortunately, the researchers from the Maltese security company
, ReVuln, have recently discovered a way in which they can accessing, unauthorized, of course, almost any function of Samsung's smart TVs.

If you ask yourself how is this possible, you must hear that the vulnerability is present in the operating system,
based on Linux, with which Samsung's last generation TVs are equipped.

Consequently, using this error, the researches obtained the access at any file stored on the attached USB memory stick, at the video camera and at the integrated microphone.

Therefore, a bad intentioned person, who could know the IP address of the device
, is able to see and listen what happens in front of the TV or to modify different sorts of functions.

In addition, ReVuln, proves into a video clip, named suggestively
"The TV is watching you", that it can have access to TV's settings, channels' list and installed apps, internet surfing and social networks.

Moreover, the researchers proved that they can install even programs from which to obtain the complete control of your TV. Similar problems were also identified last year, once with the launch of new range of Samsung Smart TVs.

In the four series, Samsung has a number of 11 models with incorporated microphone and camera: 3 versions in 8000 LED series and one model in the top line LED 9000.

What Samsung has to say…

Well, Samsung didn't want to comment the discovery of the ones from ReVuln, but they claimed previously that
they are really preoccupied of their own products and that they investigate the possible errors.

… and ReVuln?

Contacted by NBC, Luigi Auriemma - co-founder of ReVuln - declared that
the vulnerability can be explored from long distances, but the attacker must have access to the local network to which the smart TV is connected.

The importance of this matter?

We all know that the majority of smart TVs are working on a customized version of Linux, so,
not only smart TVs from Samsung are threatened.

What you can protect your smart TV?

The thing is, until an official solution is launched from the producers, the simplest way of protection is to secure the local network, especially to the wireless connections.
