GoFlex Satellite portable hard drive by Seagate
GoFlex Satellite hard drive manufactured by Seagate is probably the niftiest hard drive that you have ever led your eyes on.
The hard drive is not a storage device but also a wireless media streamer and there is little compromise on both the aspects.
It has a standard GoFlex HDD of 500GB with some extra girth, an 802.11b/g/n WiFi module, a web server that is built-in and an AC input, but pressing the on/off button gets a start on the streamer and in around 30-40 seconds it is all ready for streaming.
After firing up, data can be streamed to almost anything, including iOS devices, which is quite impressive.
A car charger and a GoFlex USB 3.0 adapter are shipped along with the unit and the former helps a user provide entertainment for children while on extensive road trips.
The process of installation is a piece of cake. All you have to do is to fire up the media sync application residing on the drive and you can drag and drop whatever files you want, just like any other ordinary hard drive.
There is no need for any kind of media management software. Have the media onboard and you can stream photos, videos, music and documents to your iPod touch, iPad, iPhone and other phones, laptop or tablet with WiFi. Any device which is enabled with WiFi and has a web browser can be used with this hard drive.
Compared to GoFlex Slim, the drive may be gigantic, but despite that is quite portable and easy to carry anywhere.
The hard drive has a built-in battery and slides easily into the rear pocket of the user. The easy transferring of the files is truly amazing and there is no need for the installation of any extra software.
There are separate versions of the iOS app which is quite Spartan in comparison but without compromising on the productivity and efficiency of the device.
There are some view options and categories and the most sophisticated among them is the Folder View which lets users view files stored, making a user able to sort through their music, video or image files quickly.
The app is not only accurate but quick as well and can stream to three separate devices at the same time. However, there is no support for scrolling through images in the Photos pane.
The hard drive works through various browsers but works best on any iOS device. Viewing videos may take longer, as the device tries to download them instead of streaming.
The GoFlex Satellite hard drive is available for $200 and is often referred to as the do-it-all hard drive.
