Teenage Development: Understanding the Development of a Child
Childhood is special. This is a stage that is loved and adored by parents. You must remember how your father carried you over his shoulders to make you see a dolphin come out of the water. Your mother must have hugged and kissed you on your cheeks and forehead more than a hundred times when you were a child.
Things changes when a child starts growing especially when he reaches his teen years. Most parents tend to fail when coping up with their child’s teenage problems.
This is a stage that is out of a parent’s control. If you are also facing such a problem or want to avoid such a thing in future, here are some important things to know about your child as he enters different stages of teenage. This will help you to handle your child in a better way.
Ages 12 and 13
This is an age where the child has entered in to proper teenage. This is also a period of time where your child goes through many physical and hormonal changes in his body.
They may gain a little weight, grow taller, develop sexual organs, and even feel awkward. The child may want to ask many questions to you.
Parents tend to feel awkward at such questions. However, you need to take it seriously as this is a crucial stage for your child.
You need to be extremely careful about the feeling and concerns of the child. One wrong step can prove really harmful to your child. Make friends with the child and you will have no problems in the future.
Ages 14 and 15
At this stage, the child grows up physically and is quite comfortable with the changes. However this may also lead to certain physical problems such as stomach pain in girls and joint pain in boys. It would be better to consult a pediatrician to make your child feel comfortable.
The hormonal kick can also make the child feel really uncomfortable. You need to talk to your child and try to understand their difficulties. Since he/she is no more a child, yelling at them will not do any good. Try to get some books for them.
This will allow them to know what’s happening to them and why. Try reading some yourself to be able to help your child in a better way.
Ages 16 and 17
This is the stage where the child wants to decide on what to do in their life. They would develop certain aspirations. You need to help them.
They may want certain type of gifts from you. Try not to break their hearts. You can also set a target for them to work upon in order to win a big gift.
Make sure that you keep tabs on their activities and make sure that they are not going on wrong track. Make friends with them and take interest in their activities.
Age 18
Most parents expect their child to grow mature and behave like an adult at this age. Well allow your child some time.
Your child will not grow mature in just a few days of time. They are in a struggling period both emotionally and physically. They require your guidance and support to do something in life.
