Most people are not aware of the fact that they will live longer if they introduced healthy antioxidants in their diet on a daily basis. Today, the health industry and medical practitioners are recommending intake of good amounts of antioxidants in diet. These are highly beneficial for your body. However, prior to taking a diet rich in antioxidants, it is important to acquire good knowledge about them this will help you know what is beneficial for your health and why.

What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants are usually referred to as miracle food or super food. This is because it helps you live longer, younger and healthier. Antioxidants can keep you fit and healthy for life. An antioxidant is actually a substance that fights off ‘free radicals’ that are produced in the body during the process of digestion or oxidation. Oxidation is body’s natural process.

It releases energy from different kinds of you consume on a daily basis. However, there can be many negative effects of oxidation in human body. Free radicals are released during this process in human body and take form of additional electrons. This can be very harmful for your body. Hence, it becomes more important to take antioxidants as they act as security guards in the body to protect it from bad elements.

The lifestyle lead by most people these days is very harmful for the body. It can also be referred to as unfavorable lifestyle for body. All the junk food, packaged food, preserved items, processed foods, fried foods and street foods can give a lot of problems to your body.

The lifestyle which involves consumption of unhealthy food on a regular basis can be damaging to body to a large extent. These foods can interrupt normal functioning of the body. Most of the processed foods are loaded with extra sugar, sodium, preservatives and fat. These foods are also known to increase the levels of LDL or bad cholesterol in the body. The result is serious health complications such as stroke, heart attack, stroke, cancer etc.

It is very important to make sure that your daily food intake is rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. There are many types of healthy foods that you can take. These are also rich in antioxidants.

Here is a list of various types of antioxidant rich foods that you must include in your diet on a daily basis:

* Garlic: The food is high in zinc, iodine, calcium, selenium and vitamins A, C and B. the food is capable of lowering cholesterol in the body to a great extent.

* Acai berries: These are acknowledged to be the king of antioxidants. You can also include other berries in your diet such as raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Understand that the darker the berry, the more antioxidants it contains.

* Tomatoes: These are rich in Lycopene. The agent will fight serious diseases and aging off.
