Go on a Fruitarian Diet

Many people find the fruitarian diet very appealing. It is believed to be the first form of vegetarian diet and that following fruitarian diet it will make earth a better place to live in.

The idea of a fruitarian diet dates back to the primitive ages when humans fed only on raw fruits and vegetables.

According to Fruitarians, fruits are plant fruits that are sweet, fleshy and have seeds with them. Some of these are nectarines, oranges, plums, watermelon, and pomegranate.

These are generally high natural sugar and have a water content of approximately 80 percent. Seeds and nuts are also a part of fruitarian diet.

What are the Choices?

There are seven basic fruit groups for the fruitarians to choose from. These are:

Sweet Fruits: Bananas, Melons, Grapes, and Persimmons

Acid Fruits: Pineapples, Citruses, Pomegranates, Strawberries, Kiwis, Sour Apples, and Cranberries

Subacid Fruits: Raspberries, Sweet Apples, Blueberries, Peaches, Pears, Papayas, Mangoes
Blackberries, Sweet Cherries, Figs, and Apricot

Nuts: Pecans, Brazils, Cashews, Walnuts, Almond, Pistachios, Pine Nuts, Hazelnuts, Macadamia, Hickories, and Beechnuts

Dried Fruits: Figs, Dates, Apples, Apricots, Raisins, Cherries, Bananas, Prunes, and Cranberries

Oily Fruits:
Coconuts, Olives, and Avocados

Seeds: Sesame, Sunflower, Pumpkin, and Squash

What Should You Know?

Fruitarians are of the opinion that quality of fruits available in the supermarkets is not up to the mark. They believe this is the result of chemical fertilization, hybridization, chemical pesticides, and harvesting before the fruit has fully ripened.

According to people who follow the fruitarian diet, it is better to buy certified organic fruits, especially heirloom, usually available at health food stores or the farmer’s market.

According to David Wolfe, a fruitarian, it is best to consume one type of fruit at any point of time. He is also of the opinion that you wait for about 45 minutes before having another type of fruit. However, the Fruitarian Foundation recommends a gap of a minimum of 90 minutes between different fruit types. In case you are still hungry after having a fruit, you should have more of the same type of fruit until you are sated.

While on a fruitarian diet, you should eat only when you are hungry and then eat until your hunger is abated. Wolfe says that fruitarians who eat just one kind of fruit at a time know when they have eaten enough.

Their appetite turns off and they start feeling that they have had too much. Once they are satiated, they do not get the same satisfaction from the same fruit. Wolfe theorizes that this is how the body tells them to stop eating. He also thinks that this signal is not as strong for people who have more than one fruit at one time.

It is quite amazing to know that people who survive on fruits alone do not need to drink water as the body gets all the water it needs from the fruits.

However, those who are not 100 percent fruitarians do need some amount of water. Fruitarians generally fast at least once a week. They should drink at least 10 glasses of water during fasting.

How do you do it?

Just need to chalk out a chart for yourself and follow that strictly. You can have 4-6 meals a day, all comprising of fruits. All you need to decide is the type of fruit you will want to have at the meals and stick to that. You may also change the order of the fruit types daily or as and when you like.
