Shiatsu: What is Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu massage known to be a wonderful form of acupressure. This art has been practiced for more than thousands of years now. There are many experts that believe in the power of acupressure massage to promote release of endorphins.

Here are some instructions you need to follow in order to know more about Shiastu massage.


* You need to study the map related to acupressure points.


You would be enlightened about more than 360 acupressure points that relate to a specific position in the body.

Pressure on specific points helps in promoting circulation of body and relieves tension. It also encourages healing.

* You need to practice this massage therapy via applying pressure with your thumbs.

You can extend your thumb. Do not bend it.

Just apply enough pressure to a table or mat. Avoid using your thumb, wrist or hand on body muscles to apply pressure.


You should focus on leaning in with your entire body weight. The key is to use your weight to precise pressure.

* Initially, you can ask your friend or a family member to let you practice. Once your friend agrees on this, ask him or her to lie down on a table or mat.


Now practice applying pressure to his body.

Ask your friend to help you measure and analyze your pressure and firmness.


Understand that Shiatsu massage is all about the therapist applying pressure about 3-5 seconds on the body.

* You must learn to combine your skills. Try utilizing pressure techniques that you are aware of on areas that have been outlined by the map.

You can ask your friend or loved one if he/she suffers from any kind of pain, tension, or a chronic condition.

You must find the symptomatic region on the acupressure point’s map. Now apply firm pressure to the region exactly where the point is mentioned on the map and then repeat 5 times.


You need to maintain pressure for about 3-5 seconds each time.

* Check back with your friend or loved to see if they have experienced any changes in symptoms. This will help you know whether your techniques are working.
