PARIS FASHION WEEK: CHANEL SS13

The reputed Parisian fashion house had injected drama and amazement due to the haute couture creations presented at the Paris Fashion Week show.

In a sort of wonder grove, there was settled an amphitheater and the catwalk, practically inexistent, was like a scene, where the models were walking in circles, seeming like they were wandering.

The whole show was set in the middle of Paris and it revealed the exclusive creations of Chanel for this Spring/Summer collection.

The reality is that Karl Lagerfeld, the actual designer, doesn't have to produce trends
in order to maintain the reputation of Chanel. Therefore, he only has to put spirit in it and his collection had lots of it! Through pines and oaks, a décor similar to the Dior show, but greater and far more spectacular, the fashion house presented a glamorous gothic haute couture collection for the Spring- Summer 2013.

The entire collection was based on the black and white contrast, characteristic for the Chanel house
, with few exceptions. Everything was luxurious and spectacular. The make-up was made by the director Peter Philips, who decided to contrast the outfits with a dramatic look and Sam McKnight, the famous hair stylist, adopted an exaggerated make over.

Organized chaos was the central idea so that each model's hair
was trimmed to flatter the physiognomy of each model. The girls were made up with "bird eyes" (smokey eyes with fluttering organza eyelashes) and the hair was a punkish well-thought asymmetric fall of hair and feathers "as though a branch from the trees had fallen in her hair!" as Lagerfeld exclaimed during the fittings.

The show began with the presentation of the deux-pieces, jackets and skirts that Coco created.
Yet, Karl Lagerfeld adapted them in a chic-gothic note which was spectacular. He mixed the femininity and elegance of Chanel suits with the raw, German romanticism hint gave by the long lacquer or laced boots, with thick low heels and peep toe that were present at all the outfits.

Regarding the dresses, they were made by overlaid fabrics, especially lace and sequins
, feathers in the eau de nil color and soft pastel embroideries. Even if this show is about spring and summer, the base of this collection wasn’t strongly colored and obviously joyous. Still, the specific marks of these seasons were subtly inserted. Therefore, the outfits included flowers, but not printed. Mostly, the flowers were 3D applications or embroidered a detail that made the creation more fabulous.

The end of the show, where the bride is traditionally presented, had a twist:
Karl Lagerfeld made two brides with luxurious white feather dresses, who came along together, hand in hand, with a small boy. It was a fight back for the huge protest from Paris against the legalization of marriage between people with the same sex.

To conclude, the eccentric Karl Lagerfeld made a very creative and spectacular fashions show and his ideas will influence for sure our everyday looks. Once again, Chanel proved its grandeur and artistry that Coco imposed during the last century.
