Social networks- job hunt made easier than ever
Building contacts and relations is one of the essential conditions for achieving success in your business or when looking for a job, the world is experiencing the modernization process through advancements in technology therefore it is vital for people in the professional field to keep up with this rapid growth of technology.
Gone are those days when contacts were developed through the exchange of business cards, now everyone is on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and that is where you can conveniently establish your own business network.
I believe, due to the existence of social networks, the employment system is becoming more and more informal, now people meet each other on social networks, employers keep an open eye for the type of people they are recruiting and shortlist the people they like on the social network itself before calling them for a formal interview.
Many people around the world are getting employed with the help of social networks, where they meet new people engage in conversations with them, discuss their interests and hobbies, personal and professional experience and often find themselves with an opportunity of being recruited for a job they like.
There are many social networks available on the World Wide Web and you can easily choose the one that suits your needs and requirements, if you are looking for a strictly professional social network then I would suggest you join LinkedIn but if you want to maintain your personal and professional life, Twitter or Facebook would be a better option; on these networks you can keep in touch with friends and family alongside looking for a job.
Social networking websites sites can perform an increasing role in networking, career progress, and professional accomplishment.
First of all just focus on increasing you contacts, look up all the people you have ever known on these social networks and add them to your friends list, then make effort to communicate with these long lost contacts with light and casual conversations on a daily or alternate day basis, key focus should be upon strengthening your relations with your friends.
Over time you can give details about your education and professional experience to your friends so they can look for a suitable job in their offices or businesses or simply can refer you to someone in their contacts who is recruiting people.
Another benefit achieved by becoming a member of a social network is that you can email your CV and job requirements to the social network and ask for referrals.
In the social networking process your profile is of ultimate importance, never under estimate your profile and pay special attention towards it.
Ensure that you have keyed in all the relevant personal and professional details, you education, the institute you graduated from, the year in which you graduated, internships, extracurricular activities, work experience, interests and hobbies, in short everything; your profile is representing you on your business network therefore it must include everything that there is to know about you.
One advice I would like to give is that don’t share unnecessary and stupid information on these social networks, people are really busy and trust me they don’t care about what you had for lunch and what you did at 5 am, only share intelligent information.
You can always share your achievements and failures, any kinds of worthwhile and inspiring experiences, this will make your blogging interesting and people will tend to follow your profile, automatically expanding your network.
Social networks have many groups on their website; it is advised that you join a few of these groups, maybe the ones which share your common interests or hobbies or some job hunting group.
Becoming a member of a specific group helps you in getting precise and to the point information, for example if you are a member of a job search group all the posts in this group would be related to jobs and nothing else, this would save you the time of scanning through all the posts that appear on your homepage while you are looking for something precise.
Twitter is playing an increasing role in helping people find jobs, although it is difficult to apply for a job in just a 140 character tweet but you can at least upload the information that you are looking.
Similarly employers on twitter send updates through tweets when they are looking for employees to hire, they even tweet people regarding the information of a personal meeting with the time and venue included.
Of course social networks are increasing awareness and have made job hunting easier than ever, now just sitting in your home in front of your laptop while logged onto your favorite social network you can find the job of your dreams, may God bless technology.
