Kua, or gau as it is also spelled, is determined for making specific adjustments to feng shui so as to obtain better results and help you lead a better and a more focused life.

The kua number (or the special number) can help you find out the best locations and directions in any house or room, and help you determine what can be done, so they play an important role in bringing about good health, success and peace.

You can also identify bad locations and avoid spending time in those areas.





With the help of the kua number, you can find out which colors are lucky for you as well as the best direction for you to face while sleeping or working so that you get the best results.

All you need to calculate anybody’s kua number is the year of the individual’s birth and their gender. The rest of the calculation is pretty easy, but you have to ensure that the year of birth is according to the Chinese calendar.

It is especially important to make sure that the year is correct because the Chinese New Year begins on a different day each year.

After checking out the year of birth according to the Chinese calendar comes the calculation part.

Let us assume that the person whose kua number we are calculating was born in the year 1968.

Now, we have to add up the very last digits of the year of birth, like in this case it would be 6 + 8 = 14.

We need to bring this two-digit number to a single digit number by adding the digits up again, i.e. 1 + 4 = 5.

This is the basic common step for both males and females.

However, from here onwards, the calculations change according to the sex.

For females, the next step is to add 5 to the number that was calculated in the first step. In this case we will have 5 + 5 = 10. Again add up the two digits to get a single digit number 1 + 0 = 1 and we have the kua number of the female.

For males, the number calculated previously must be deducted from number 10. So in this case 10 – 5 = 5 and we have the kua number of the male.

According to classical feng shui, a person is either a west or an east group person. By finding out the kua number of an individual he can very easily find out his feng shui group.




Kua numbers 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 fall under the west group while kua numbers 1, 3, 4, and 9 fall under the east group.

It has to be remembered in this context that many schools of feng shui are not in the habit of using the kua number 5. For females the number is replaced with kua number 8 and for males it is replaced with kua number 2.


Lucky colors based on your kua number are very important.

For kua number 1 the lucky color is black or blue,

for kua number 2 and 8 it is beige or yellow,

for 3 as well as 4 it is brown or green,

for 6 and 7 is white, gold or silver and

for 9 it is red.

You should make use of your kua number for sleeping with your head pointed towards your good direction, and face the stove door, main house door and desk in your office towards your good direction for good luck and fortune.
