Tattoo Aftercare Tips

After a lot of thinking and deciding session you have finally got a beautiful tattoo on your body. You are super excited. But, what should be your duty now? Do you require getting in to an after care routine? Do you require purchasing some after care products for your tattoo?

Well, these are certain concerns most people have in their minds after they get a tattoo done on their body. Understand that your tattoo artist is not responsible for any infection, allergy or skin problems you suffer from once the tattoo is done.

Proper care is required to keep your tattoo infection free. It is a part of your body and you must care for it just the way you do to many other parts on a daily basis. Here are certain guidelines that u require following in order to keep your skin problem free.

The Bandage

Understand that your tattoo artist took special care to cover the design. This is to keep it hidden from the germs and other harmful elements found in the environment. Respect the decision of the artist to cover the tattoo and let it remain that way for period that has been instructed.

The new tattoo is like a wound and needs time to heal. Additionally open flesh is a breeding ground for infection, germs and bacteria. It would be wise to leave the bandage on for at least 2 hours or as instructed. You need to be really patient before you finally want to show the tattoo off to your friends.

Wash

Once you have removed the bandage, it is important to wash your tattoo. It is good to use lukewarm water and mild soap. You can use a liquid antibacterial or antimicrobial soap. Consult your tattoo artist or dermatologist for the same. Strictly avoid using a washcloth. This can be abrasive. In case, the surface is slimy, your skin is leaking plasma.

Try removing as much as possible and let it heal. Pat dry the area with a clean soft towel. Apply some ointment. Best choice will be to use an ointment rich in vitamin A&D. avoids using anti-bacterial ointment. Neosporin is not recommended.

Special Products and Lotions


Special lotions and ointments are available on the market for caring newly done tattoo. You may buy one of these to make sure that the tattoo remains beautiful healthy and permanent.

Bathing

It is possible to enjoy a shower after getting your body inked. Just take care that you do not soak the tattoo into water. Hot water can be damaging. Avoid this for 2-3 weeks. Avoid swimming for two weeks.

Scabbing and Peeling

Peeling and scabbing is a natural process after a few days. However, excessive scabbing means that the tattoo was not done with care. You can apply warm moist compresses to the scabs. Keep it for five minutes 2-3 times once daily. In case the skin itches, just slap it.
