Hair loss is a very sensitive issue among men and women alike. In order to address this issue, many treatment plans have been implemented. There are various creams that can be applied which can restore your hair follicle activities. You can also undergo hormonal therapy. But probably the most effective hair loss treatment is hair transplant surgery. However, the downside of this is that it is quite risky and if not executed properly, can lead to dreadful consequences.

The first question that you need to ask yourself is whether you really need a surgery to stop hair loss or not.
Everyone loves short cuts.

This is the reason why many want to go for hair transplant surgery than going through a long drawn process of dieting and massaging the scalp.

While it is indeed true that hair transplant surgery yields faster solution to this problem, it is also true that the risks and costs associated with this process are enormous.

Hair transplant surgery is definitely not for everyone.
It is men who mainly need this surgery, because they are the ones who develop bald heads.

Absolute baldness is seen very rarely among women.
Even in diseases like alopecia areata, women have thinning of hair rather than total baldness.

A hair transplant is a surgery.
In which hair from one area (that is not likely to get bald) is taken and transplanted into the thinning or balding areas.

This hair can continue to grow throughout one’s lifetime and can contribute to give you a look of a head full of hair.

The different types of hair transplantation surgery are:

1. FUSS method – Follicular Unit Strip Surgery
In this method, a thin strip of hair from the back side of the scalp is taken.

It is taken from this area as this area is less prone to balding.

The hair strands are then implanted into the balding area you want to fill. These hair strands will grow as long as you will live. The contributor area is closed with the help of staples or sutures, which will be either absorbed with time or removed after some days.

In this technique, very less scarring will take place in the donor section if the surgeon is very skillful. A great advantage of the FUSS method is that you can transplant many grafts at a time and get remarkable results. This method works out effectively for medium and large balding areas.

2. FUE – Follicular Unit Extraction
It is a brand new technique offered by many surgeons.

In this method, the hair follicle is taken from sides and back of the head and planted into the balding section.

No deep surgery or use of scalpel is required in this method. Some surgeons are of the opinion that the recovery time required in this method is less than the FUSS method, mainly because of absence of any deep surgery. This method works best for those people who don’t want any scars or do not require lot of drafts.

3. Scalp Reduction
It is an uncommon surgery.

In this method, balding areas are surgically removed in order to eliminate the balding skin totally.

This treatment is usually done in multiple sessions. It is the most costly method of hair transplantation surgery. There are also some risks associated with this method like tightness of scalp leading to scarring and thinning of skin.

These are the different methods of hair transplantation surgery described in a nutshell.
